We are working on an art project to go along with our haunted house writing. First we used watercolors to make an evening sky. Then we cut out a haunted house and other objects out of black paper to make them look like a silhouette. They look great!
We are taking turns bringing home the adjective surprise bag. When it comes to your house, put a mystery item in it. Describe the item with 10 adjectives. Students will bring it back and read the adjectives while the rest of us guess what's in there.
Be creative! On Friday afternoons, students who have completed homework, classwork, maintained positive behavior, and kept their desk clean, receive "Earned Personal Time." This is a free time that they can play with their friends. Last Friday, some girls built some very cool structures with pattern blocks!
As part of the unit on the penguin life cycle, we worked as a class to act out the roles of the male and female penguins. It was educational... and we laughed a whole lot! In this picture, the males are trumpeting to the females.

Today the firemen came to talk to us about fire safety. We watched a video and then they discussed what to do in case you are home when there's a fire. Fireman Miranda put on full gear so that students could see what a fireman looks like all dressed up. Students were given the homework of checking the batteries in their home detectors, making sure they have two ways to escape in case of a fire, and designating a meeting spot outside.
We continue to work on the cursive alphabet. Today we learned the letter "t." I ask that students do not write in cursive until we have finished both the uppercase and lowercase alphabet.
