The reading program that we use in Attleboro is called "Reading Street." We also supplement with units provided to us by the DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education). These units focus on a wide variety of topics such as fables and biographies. Students will also study grammar, handwriting and spelling using a variety of materials.
Accelerated Reader
Individual goals are based on each child's reading level, so they are attainable! Students should be reading books at their reading level and taking tests at school. They are allowed to take these tests in the morning, during reading centers, and indoor recess.
If a child is not taking on the responsibility independently, I will work with them to create a reading plan to help them reach their goal.
AR- Home Connect
You can track your child's progress and see the tests that they are taking using the program AR Home Connect. If you are interested in using this, you can use the link below to sign up.
It's important to make sure that the books your child is selecting are appropriate to their reading level. The website below can be used for more information on the level of books, as well as the number of points children can earn from taking a test on that book. It is very user friendly. Just type in the title of the book and select the match from the list provided. If you are having trouble, try eliminating the series name (i.e. Franny K Stein, Magic Tree House) and just type in the actual book title.
