One parent suggested that I outline what aspects of the curriculum we will be working on in the upcoming week. What a wonderful suggestion!
Obviously, topics and schedules are subject to change. As of right now, our week includes: Reading: We will read our first story in Reading Street titled "Boom Town," which tells the story of a girl who helps her family earn money during the gold rush by selling pies. The class will begin to explore weekly activities such as Write to Read, Boggle, Vocabulary, and Selection Test. They will also learn the test-taking strategies that are used in Grade 3 Writing: Students will begin to set up their Writer's Notebook, which is one of my favorite third grade activities. After we set them up, they will be allowed to bring them home and write at their leisure (in addition to classroom writing). Math: We will be completing introductory lessons to multiplication by exploring arrays and equal grouping. Telling time will also be reviewed this week. Social Studies: We will begin to explore our SS book "Massachusetts: Our Home." If time permits, we will start creating our maps of Massachusetts. Science: (will start next week)
